Our Commitments & Policies

COMN is a nonpartisan civic information platform for Austin residents. These policies describe our commitments to accuracy, fairness, and transparency — what we stand for and how we hold ourselves accountable. Whether you're looking for a town hall, a march, or an election, you can trust that events on this map are held to the same standard regardless of who's organizing them.

  1. 1All events must come from verified public sources or credible civic organizations.
  2. 2Event type — protest, town hall, voting, nonprofit, or online — is assigned based on what the event actually is: its format, purpose, and activities. It is never based on the reputation, politics, or history of the hosting organization. A voter registration drive hosted by an activist group is classified as a voting event, not a protest.
  3. 3No organization is automatically labeled as a "protest" or "rally" host. Each event is evaluated independently on its own description and details.
  4. 4Every event on COMN is reviewed and approved by at least two independent members of our real, human editorial team before it ever appears on the map. Our team reviews the platform daily. No event is ever automatically published.
  5. 5Event descriptions are written as neutral, factual summaries with no editorial voice.
  6. 6No editorial opinions, political framing, or advocacy language appear in any event description on this platform.
  7. 7We actively seek civic events from across the political and ideological spectrum. No perspective receives preferential treatment in sourcing or approval.
  8. 8Source URLs are always displayed so anyone can verify an event directly and independently.
  9. 9Events are never added based solely on social media posts — a primary, verifiable source is always required.
  10. 10If a published event is found to contain inaccurate information, it is corrected or removed promptly. Users can flag any event using the report button on this page.
  11. 11No event can be promoted, prioritized, or boosted through payment. All events are displayed on equal footing.
  12. 12COMN admins do not approve events from organizations they are personally affiliated with.
  13. 13COMN does not endorse any political party, candidate, or ideology.
